Whole disk encryption and ssd's do not match. Ssd's will become a lot slower when you fill them which is exactly what whole disk encryption does. Buying an ssd would be a waste of money, you're better off with a much cheaper hdd.

Reasons why I'm waiting. Note these haven't been confirmed, but I'm thinking

    With Thunderbolt connectivity they might:
    Add a FW 400 and 800 port
    Add USB 3.0 Ports
    Add ethernet
Get rid of the USB connecting cable since it could go over Thunderbolt.

In other words, make the ACD almost into a dock.

I'm in the market for 2 ACD's when the revision comes out.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, I think it'll just be USB 2.0 carried over Thunderbolt with the display and audio but it would be great if they pushed through what you had, I'm definitely waiting until at least the iMac refresh comes because maybe it'll come along with that or at least give some indication of the direction they're taking. I love the idea of not have to plug the USB in too, I want to just hook up power and Thunderbolt to use the ACD with my MBP. I think it'll end up coming sooner than later, gotta get some Thunderbolt products on the market.

after looking at the new version I felt that it was great but the ads just really killed it. The space at the top was really hurtful of the overall design. I forked over a whopping $20 for a year and got the member version and look at how nice it looks! Plus think of how good the money can be used by Arn to make this an even better site!

1st off, I like the new design aesthetically speaking. It looks more professional and elegant despite having so much content.

One problem for me however is that the left and right columns are of fixed width while the center column is of variable width.

This is superior when I'm viewing the site in a very large browser window on a desktop set to very high resolutions. However, at 'normal' sizes (I'm defining 'normal here as a browser window that takes up about 2/3 the width of an 18" screen set to 1024x768) the center column is unbearably narrow. In fact, when I make the browser window a bit smaller the center column completely dissappears (being wholy eclipsed by the side columns)!

I should note that I'm viewing the site from a Win2K box using IE6 (a fairly common setup even for a Mac-centric website I should think).

Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work.

    Hi Guys,

A mac mini (2 months old) connected to a GOOD UPS is now rebooting on it's own 3-4 times a day.

There are log files generated for these events but are too detailed for my understanding.

Is there a simple event viewer (like MS eventvwr.msc) that can show me failed services, failed operations, etc., so I can try and track down what the heck is going on?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help in understanding the Sum of a cube and the push in the right direction. I will start on it tomorrow night.

This is the first assignment that I have to produce my own Top Down Design. The projects before this He would do them on the board and we would copy them down. I'll have to go over my notes on the last projects to get a better handle on it.

    Thanks Guys!

I came home from work, turned on the TV and sat there watching the events unfold in disbelief. I didn't know how to react but i do remember being extremely angry. It was just shocking.

We'd just been in New York two years prior to 9/11. I'd recored the whole trip with my video camera. A short bit of it included the Trade Centre ... standing right at the bottom looking straight up.

On September 14th I was at a Radiohead concert in Belfast. Thom Yorke dedicated Street Spirt "to all the Americans trying to get back home".

    Very moving.

I miss the old Apple... The Apple that had the great, funny commercials. And also the fun to watch commercials. I remember these, they were the BEST. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN3RU8pJR74

So why don't they make these anymore?

Well, I am so NOT the target audience for those ads - they don't speak to me at all. If anything, then I knew exactly what product NOT to buy after watching that ad.

The last Apple ads that I liked were the Think Different ads with Alfred Hitchcock & Co. And before that, the Charles Chaplin ads. That tells me a lot about how much Apple changed and with them their target audience.

I would not say the iPad stinks as an ereader, but the kindle is certainly better for reading books. I have read 15 to 20 full length books on my iPad, about the same on my phone, and hundreds on my kindle.

I travel a lot , so since I got my iPad, I do not bring the kindle (I have a DX). I am actually considering buying a little one just for novels, I got the DX for PDFs, a function the iPAD is 1000000 times better suited for.

All three devices are better than a PC for reading books. The order is clearly Kindle, iPad, iPhone.

You're right..."stinks" is a bad choice of words....but clearly the iPad is nowhere near the same ballpark of a reading experience when it comes to reading books...sitting in front of the screen for 1-3 hours at a time.

Reading restaurant menus as PDFs or emails or blogs or websites...the iPad is great and definitely better than the Kindle...the Kindle needs to either put a 10000x better web browser on the product or kill it...it's terrible...especially just typing in a URL. Keyboard could use a major overhaul, too.

I have a very convoluted home network. The route from Internet to my current primary system is:
    Cable Modem --100MbitEthernet--> AirPort Extreme-n --WiFi-n--> AirPort Extreme-n --GigabitEthernet--> MacBook

When I do a speed test over Ethernet, I get 20-25 Mbps. (This is traveling over 802.11n WiFi to cross the house from one AirPort base to a second.) When I do the same speed test over 802.11g WiFi, connecting to the primary base station, 3 feet away from it, I get 10 Mbps.

That configuration could also be your issue. Each Wi-Fi link is only half duplex, so any packet you send can cause the receiving packets to slow (i.e. collisions). Running from one AP is likely not going to have the same impact.

I'm about to purchase the new '11 iMac in the next couple days and had a question about Time Machine. I have all my backups from my '09 iMac on my external harddrive. Will Time Machine move programs like iWorks? I don't want to have to buy the program all over again on the new computer if Time Machine can transfer it. Same for Adobe Photoshop CS5..does Time Machine allow these programs to be transferred? Thanks for any and all help!

Hello! I would really appreciate any help.

First of all, I was stupid and actually paid 50 for this (http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/), which they won't refund me despite it not working. I feel like an idiot but I'm used to Android and didn't feel confident. The software is legit, however.

I am trying to unlock a 3GS from Vodafone. I shelled out for the above. I've done everything right so far, downloaded all I needed. It's on 4.3.2 and I need to get the iPad baseband. So I click install Cydia and prepare for unlock.

I launched iUnlocked, got the firmware, did the power button home button thing. A window comes up saying, "Fetching iPad baseband, please be patient". That stays up for about 3 minutes then disappears. After that, nothing happens. I have tried this multiple times now, including restoring my iPhone and trying it. After every time I try, I can only get it to boot when I reset. I've watched and read tutorials so know what's supposed to happen, but it never does.

Can someone help me? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

I see you are back in full force. I have been avoiding the whole 6G thing since the performance of most multichannel cards with standard drives is fine. If you are running an array based on SSD drives then I can see the value at this time, but no mechanical drive is going to max out 3G (SATA II) at this time. BTW Nano, running an xserve now, made life so much easier. Have two Sans Digital SAS Chassis, 316X2, dual SAS connectors for 2400MB/S performance, and it has made dealing with raid simple. No more time out errors, no more hard drives dropping out, nothing. Not sure if plunking down $2500 per chassis is worth it but for me with no headaches it was.

    Peace,
    Noushy
The 6Gb/s cards are still faster than their previous 3Gb/s counterparts with the same disks (i.e. 1680 series vs. 1880 series running the same firmware revision, v1.49). Moving to 6.0Gb/s has both marketing as well as performance implications though (particularly in the enterprise market as SLC based SSD's fall in price and hopefully become more prevalent). I would expect mechanicals that run 6.0Gb/s controllers will run faster as well, even though they can't saturate the interface (native = no shifting backwards for compatibility). For a new storage solution, it would be best to go ahead and get the 6.0Gb/s compliant gear (allows for future growth by only dealing with drives and enclosures, assuming the port count isn't under-planned).

So if the existing equipment will be sufficient through it's planned lifespan, there's no need to rush out and buy 6Gb/s gear.

As per the equipment you used, the ease of use is why it costs so much (the software was already loaded, configured <save user settings>, and tested with the hardware) . I'd recommend keeping it until it no longer meets your needs (gets the job done and doesn't waste funds = keeps boss happy and your job secure :D). ;)

Yes, i know a very quick and easy way to take mp3 files out of a youtube video. All you need is an email.

    Go to www.zamzar.com

Then on the website where is says step one, click where it says url.

Copy and paste the url of the youtube video you want to extract the audio from and paste it in the open space for a link. (BE CAREFUL: make sure you delete the "http://" that is already there because you don't want it to look like "http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fSFWCY0uxE")

Then where it says step 2, choose mp3, which is a bit more than halfway down the list.

For step 3, enter your email address like it says to.

Then in step 4 click convert and when the window pops up click OK.

Once you get the email go under the blue box where it says "Alternatively click on the following link to download a copy of your converted file:" and click on the link below which should take you to another window.

After you click download in the new window it will download it and it should start playing on itunes or at least will be downloaded onto your computer.

I believe that was suppose to be yesterday, not today...

Today there are multiple sources that now claim 4.3.1 should be out in two weeks or less, and that Apple has fixed the hole in the iPad2!

So, its supprising how these 'sources', know just what hole comex used. And know that apple fixed that hole...
