Gah!! This gapless playback thing is annoying me. I upgraded as soon as the keynote finished and it's still analysing my library (37825 songs). What's it even for?!

So here's my question - if they're eliminating the "suite" package and eliminating upgrade pricing aren't they killing the current FCP editors who use all of the other suite apps? Currently FCP 7 charges $299 for the upgrade. So if they're eliminating the upgrade price and I want to upgrade 3 of my systems I have to pay $299 for FCPX and then an additional $700? for the other apps for each system? I've just gone from an upgrade cost of $900 (3 systems) to $3,000!
Please tell me it ain't so!
In my opinion the quote was very vague I think it left open the possibility that the price is $299 for the whole suite, maybe it's just wishful thinking.
Here's the quote - "We've had upgrade pricing, we've had Final Cut Express, we've had Final Cut Studio - so we decided that we wanted to really do away with all of that, we wanted to greatly simplify the pricing structure, make it very very easy for you decide if you want to get a copy of Final Cut Pro. So we've decided to make it available for the amazing price of $299."
I think the mention of all those would imply that all of those are now the $299 price? Thoughts?
While I certainly feel this bad scenario is possible i highly doubt it. Apple has been adding to the value of FCP pretty consistently. Final Cut Pro 2 cost $999 back in the day, skip ahead to today and FCP along with Motion, Color, Soundtrack pro, DVD studio pro... costs $999. While their hardware seems to not really drop in price, Apple seems to be on a trend of dropping software prices, while often increasing what the software can do.
That being said I hope they continue to add to FCP (making it more of a complete package like Smoke) and still keep the Suite of products (it can be nice to have a dedicated working environment sometimes). I'd love to see an updated, 64bit, GrandCentralDispatch etc version of Motion, same for Soundtrack.
Plus I haven't heard anyone mention (not that I've looked that hard) how nice it is that Apple gave us a sneak peek, pre release. That is typically not a favor Apple lends to it's public or users.

I have a 12" PowerBook and when I saw the new 13" MacBook, there is no comparison, Why are people waiting for a 12" ? Have you even seen the 13"?
yeah it has the appeal of an ibook. not a powerbook :)
it's a widescreen unlike the PB12... keep waiting, but it is not going to happen.
Says you. I think a small MBP is on the cards. I would, however, buy a 13.3" WS based machine but with a smaller bezel around the screen than the MB.
Anyhow, I have been waiting awhile for this upgrade, the store has been offline forever!!! Hurry apple.. My wallet is itching for one in black!!!
Yeah I'm almost tempted, but only by black.

I know we've overdosed on speculation recently, but the MacRumors live transcript from the keynote today contained the following line (from Steve I believe):
10:24 am lots more announcements during the next week
best to just wait and see...... They may not be public announcements but announcements made to developers at the conference under NDA.

Apple does not like it when OEM's let things slip. IIRC, ATI lost a contract due to something like this.

Subtle ?? That's not the current iPhone interface when in a call.
It's blaring right at you.look at that iPhone. It shows the blue area at the top.Go make a call and see how it looks.
This is a new iPhone or creative license.
Looks like a normal iPhone where the display is shifted down almost midway, probably because of a bug with the display.
No cause for getting anyone's panties in a bunch.

I'm not holding my breath on the Top secret features...it could have been a joke.
ALTHOUGH, Tiger included some features that were so top secret--like the exclusive dotMac widgets--that Apple couldn't even include them in the final release, so you never know! ;)

No hardware in WWDC '11?
Apple always said they are about Software and Hardware, well then it wouldn't make sense for them to omit hardware from the conference.
So i'm predicting...
A completely revamped iOS, named iOS 5
Mac OS X Lion, the best OS yet.
A completely revamped MobileMe, a lot of free features but more space requires cheaper annual payments.
Additional cloud-like services nobody thought of.
Why does this sound like everything that might be shown? Or am i missing something?
i was hoping they would show off the iPhone 5 alongside iOS 5, and new iMacs for Mac OS X Lion, but i guess that won't be happening..
Am I missing something here why no iphone 5???
I agree mobile me will be completely revamped and will cost about US$50-75 per year
Music on the cloud
I still think there will be mention of a iphone 5 or proof one is coming (eg new os is HD or something....) Maybe instead/ as well as of a iphone 5 they should make a/call it the iphone HD (bigger screen, HD video etc)

well defending a country doesn't equal "having the capability to blow up another country thousands miles away". For many european countries, apart of France and Britain, it never was needed because they lacked colonies
also todays political realites need to be kept in mind: after german reunification and the fall of the warsaw pact, an aweful lot of armies were simply way to overblown. With the EU expansions even more: what is the point of keeping thousands of tanks when there is no country next to you which has even close the capability to be a danger to you and neither has any motivation for a military attack.
It's not their fault that the US is still stuck in cold war spending.

Aww... love this quote:
Music is so deep within all of us, but it's easy to go for a day or a week or a month or a year without really listening to music. And the iPod has changed that for tens of millions of people, and that makes me really happy, because I think music is good for the soul.
What a nice interview.

blah, I don't want to chew through my data plan, and wait for the update to download with over the air updates.
I'd be happy if I could just do them over my own WiFi... and sync over WiFi while I'm at it.

First impressions after seeing the demo: very exited! The lack of a 'writing video' window seems worth the wait alone.
Still have some questions and doubts though. The interface will no doubt feel like second nature after some time, but what will an omf look like when sent to my audio guy? How about final cut server support, and color, soundtrack pro, etc. Will my old libary of much loved plugins still work?
Very curious about what we're going to see in the coming months.

I played for about 90 minutes last night. I am impressed with the graphics but focused on the story (solo/coop), seems like more of the same. I mean it's good but as with most sequels and for me especially after the 5th time around, it's feeling a bit repetitive. Maybe as I get farther into it I'll get more excited. :)

Makes sense, sort of. Why make it more confusing for consumers? I can understand the non-glossy option for MBPs since some professionals require accurate color, and therefore need matte screens.
yea, for consumers, glossy screens are much better. thers probably only a small percentage of consumers who wouldnt buy a macbook because of the glossy screen

I feel bad for all the designers/photographers/filmmakers (part of companys and esp. freelance/new graduates). How the hell will folks be able to afford upgrading every year and/or two years. This doesn't include the time and possible addition outlay to work around the learning curves for all new bells, whistles, bs etc.
Unless they need one of the new bells and whistles, why upgrade? The old version still works, so unless there is a must have feature then there is no compelling reason to upgrade; other than you *want* the latest version independent of *needing* it.
If they do need it, but can't afford it; they probably need to reassess their line of work.

I'm not sure why, but like many, I don't like 3D either. However, when the iPad can project a holographic touch.... ho..lo...gram? (Yes lets go with that)

I don't think a new computer will come out but I could be wrong. I was thinking, a redesigned iMac utilizing the construction and materials of the Mac Pro would be gorgeous. The only thing is that it would make it much heavier which I doubt they would do. I'm excited to see what is to become of the MacBook Pro.

Your wife said 'no'?
You know, this is a question that I've been wanting to ask for a long time, and this is not directed only at you, but to all responses similar to yours I've seen on such topics. It's an honest question I have, because it just blows my mind:
What the hell kind of relationship do you people have with your spouses?? I mean, seriously??! You need their explicit PERMISSION to buy something you want, with your money, and it gets to their point of people BEGGING their wives to let them buy something, only to be turned down?! How the hell do you get yourself into this kind of dynamic? The only plausible reason that a wife may be against it is if you guys are so short on cash, that $500 will break the account and drive you into poverty? And if this is the case, then you people should have a bit more responsibility than to beg your wives to let you buy something that you clearly can't afford. If you CAN afford it, and it is your $$, then why the hell do you even need to ask your wife in the 1st place, and what right does she have to refuse you? Do your wives make all the money? An iPad isn't a car or a house that needs to be a consensual and debated purchase. Your wife shouldn't have the ability (nor the desire) to stop you from buying one.
This is honestly something that Id like an answer to. Some of you seem to have a 'child/parent' relationship, instead of husband/wife. If she's the breadwinner of the house, and you mooch of her, fine I'd understand. But if you bring in the $$? Sounds like a disturbing and cold relationship. Why does she get to dominate you and dictate your decisions, void of any debate or discussion?
When you're married, it's a partnership, and it's no longer a case of "your money" and "her money", but a case of "OUR" money. Once responsibilities are out the way, then personal purchases can be looked at, but unless you're in a job where you have a LOT of disposable income far in excess of what's required to pay the mortgage and many bills, then yes it's only right you make sure you have the money to go out and buy a gadget which, most of the time, only you will use.
I'm fortunate that my wife enjoys using technology, but I still wouldn't go out on payday and just buy a new gadget without at least letting her know I was doing it, and if I spend money on something, it's only fair she does the same ... which means for whatever you spend, you need to double it and again it's only after looking at bills and responsibilities that you can do so.

I think you're staing a very good point, comrade :) The only people who are going to buy a MBP is the ones that cares and who know they're going to buy it despite of the iPad.
I dont think either that the iPad will loose customers because of a "minor" MBP update. Just look at the pre-order numbers. Haven't they passed over 50,000 now? And that in just days? I mean, it shows the interest for the iPad and people will not ask themself wether go get an iPad or the new Macbook Pro, they know they want that ****INGS iPad.
So in all, mr. Jobs have no reason to delay the launch of the new MBP. Because he know that the iPad will be a sucsess and it won't matter when the hell the MBP is released... Hmmm...that makes me wonder why he haven't released it before allready :S
It has nothing to do with who buys what. It's all about marketing. And I assure you Mr. Jobs is considerably better at marketing than you (or anyone else on these boards).
