As the story says: "A private armed security guard interrupted the burglars and at some point, gunfire was exchanged with the two male burglars, who were also armed, Facicci said."

The burglars were shooting at him also. So the security guard acting in self defense. It wasn't like they were unarmed and while they ran away he shot them.

    From the article:

A private armed security guard interrupted the burglars and at some point, gunfire was exchanged with the two male burglars, who were also armed, Facicci said.

Only in America, can you have the intention to hurt/kill others, but until an x amount of people are hurt/shot or raped, then charges can be pressed allow criminals to make multiple attempts until they have a good successful one before they are official caught/punished. What the hell did he think would happen robbing a store while being armed? Cops would give him lollipops? Come on, people that rob banks shouldn't be "surprised" that they were shot. He knew the consequences of armed robbery.

I feel I must defend my original post from page 1 . . . when I posted that, there was no mention of gunfire in the article. This story has been updated since I posted my question of whether the guard had the right to do what he did. And as I said, there are facts we don't know yet.

Don't jump all over someone for not reading the article, when the article you are referring to wasn't posted yet.

Err... and how is that relevant? I'm sure Blu-Ray will live on in other notebooks, but Apple's? Unlikely.

There were 100GB BDXL when Apple refreshed the MacBook Pro's this year.

Maybe when Steve Jobs is gone for good then Apple can finally have Blu-Ray and a laptop with a right-click mouse.

'app store' means simply 'store at which apps are offered for sale,'

Go back five years. I tell you "Someone told me that I should use iMovie to edit the movies that I made with my video camera. Where can I buy it"? You say: "You should go to an app store". I say "What on earth is an app store?"

No, that wouldn't have happened. You would have said "You should go to a computer store". "You might try a games store, they might have it". You would never have said "You should go to an app store".

As of now, If I rip my Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Album onto iTunes and put it in my iPOD, there are little gaps in between songs. If you listen to the album on CD, the tracks change, but there are no gaps, one song goes into the next.

The same could be said for other music, classical music that is multiple movements, but THROUGH composed might have track changes, but lead from one section to the next.

Kind of a small thing, but a good thing none the less.

    Hooray!!!

Pretty big thing if you are into dance music/dj mixes that are seperated into tracks. There are suprisingly few mp3 players that will play them gapless

Gotcha! That would get old quick, at least the old apps would work. It is kind of cool now that a G3 can still run Tiger. Oh well, can't have everything! :)
I doubt that 10.6 will run on G4. CS4 will probably run very sluggish on a Quad G5.

Shame that everyone is going to jump to conclusions rather than work out why this is stored.

The obvious problem is that the data may be extracted -- against the will of the owner -- for a completely different reason than it was initially stored. See this comment (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12427513&postcount=17) in the discussion thread.

Wonder if the top of the line Core i7 Sandy Bridge iMac will be faster than many of the SP Mac Pro configurations.

Processor wise, pretty sure, gpu wise, maybe in 2 years. :D

You got to love disruptive, violent behavior from "peace" groups. Sure makes you respect them doesn't it. You can always use paper and pencil if you don't want to use a computer. Oh, wait, harvesting a renewable resource like trees is out. Give me a break.

touch screen dialing sucks, not being able to feel buttons is actually a big deal, even though most numbers are dialed through contacts list.

Very true... I wish there was a way to make a touchscreen have a tactile feel... If there was a way, I'm sure Apple would be the one to do it.

I would love to have a red iPod, but I don't know why we would ever give money to help fight AIDS on a continent where the people take NO precautions to prevent themselves from getting AIDS

Education to teach how to prevent the spread of AIDS costs money too.

Oh man, this just get's more and more confusing.

Now The Register are claiming there'll be Merom's not only in the MacBook Pro, but in the MacBook too in September.

    http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/11/apple_macbook_to_get_merom/

I wish Apple'd tell us when we'll see them at least, on the 12th, but that's not going to happen :(

Breaking a glass window means you can shoot someone in the head? Wow... He may be a criminal but that doesn't mean the security guard should've shot him.

One thing I noted on the old page 2 thread was the possibility of a REAL Photo iPod - more like my Epson P-4000. It could double as a video player for the new "higher res" iTunes video downloads.

But back to the photo crowd. Wouldn't it be sweet to have a larger Photo iPod that was integrated into Aperture ...

    1. High speed internal CF and SD card inputs in this larger case

    2. Full support for RAW and RAW zooming

    3. Under a pound / 450 g in weight

    4. Large, bright 640 x 480 screen

    5. Killer feature: Aperture keyword / ranking / stacking functions on the iPod!!

You're on the road shooting, and traveling light. During breaks you upload your CF/SD cards to the new "Aperture.iPod". When you're sitting in a cafe, back at your hotel, or taking a train home you whip out the Aperture.iPod and using the Keywords.plist you uploaded from Aperture before you left you start Stacking, key-wording, and ranking images.

Next day you head to your studio, upload the new images from the Aperture.iPod to your MP 3Ghz (w/16 GB RAM and 3 TB of HDs!), and the first pass of your sorting is already done!

Aperture is SUPPOSED to be about meshing cool software with Apple hardware to make the professional (and dedicated amateur) photographer's life easier. I'm 99% sure this press conference will be about how Aperture and Apple hardware let's you focus on creative shooting, not IT issues.

    iMac = Socket 479 (Yonah)
    Conroe = Socket 775

    So, no.

I thought the Yonah was Socket 775. It's not?

Who says Creative was going broke?

They have been around a long time and seem to be doing better than ever.

I'd hardly call a http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/8356/95% drop in profits "doing better than ever."

Despite MP3 players that offered more, Creative was on a downward spiral. Now they become a sheep following the iPod shepherd and Apple wins the battle.

Note that if I'm right (trust me!), then there's a gap.... no Apple box with a Conroe? I don't think so.... Apple will introduce a new system with support for a single Conroe. Hopefully it won't be the MacPro with a different mobo, but a completely new box (fingers crossed).
Perhaps some kind of high performance consumer-oriented/gaming-oriented tower?

    (Just pure speculation...)

A couple of years from now TBolt will be as normal as 1394.

Agreed. In a few years - after some software updates, firmware revisions, and motherboard replacements - I also expect TBolt to be a normal (although perhaps expensive) way to connect peripherals.

TBolt on the current Apples (laptops/all-in-ones) is an interesting thing if you don't need it. If you need it to work out-of-the-box - perhaps you should have a backup strategy in place.

Apple couldn't even release laptops that worked right with their current display lineup - (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1114280) - and you expect a brand new bleeding edge hot-plug PCIe interconnect to work when it can't possibly have been tested with off-the-shelf peripherals? That's way too much Kool-Aid!

    I have an idea:

Sell Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in a High Definition format to test the waters. I think a lot of people would buy it in HD since they already have computers capable of decoding it. Why the need to invest in an expensive HD DVD player?
Already I hear people grumbling that downloading these sub-DVD quality movies taking couple of hours even with high speed cable connections. HD quality would be about 6-8 times larger in file size and could take a day to download. Not sure if we are there yet...in terms of bandwidth.
