That actually isn't surprising. I've noticed that all of the aftermarket "OEM" white based replacement backplates (any using the white housing for colored glass...yellow, all the whites, green) are always just slightly thicker and can prevent tighter fitting cases from going on the phone. I always just chalked it up to aftermarket parts not being as exact as genuine Apple parts, but now it seems like it's actually a legitimate difference.

That was the case for the previous 21.5" too. The smaller enclosure can only fit 2 DIMM slots while the larger 27" can fit 4 DIMM slots.
False. My current imac 21.5 has 4 dimm slots. And can handle 16GB. Same as the 27. The new sandybridge imacs can handle 32GB. Regardless of what apple says. They all can take 16GB.

Not a huge surprise, sadly. Can we at least get HSPA+?

BGR seems to be getting pretty good at this. I wonder how they made such an accurate connection inside Apple....
Maybe BGR was able to 'buy-off' someone within Apple.

Then you have never streamed video onto your phone from home or Netflix or Slingbox. It's not pleasant over 3G onto the iPhone - looks and responds even worse on the iPad.
We need 4G NOW!
TonyAgreed. Anyone who tried to watch MMOD knows that 3G for streaming video is worthless, particularly for high motion. The quality is too poor to see anything.
The only thing I don't like about these iPhone 5 rumors is that they're proving everyone who said the iPhone 5 would be a half-step upgrade right. No NFC, no LTE, no larger screen size, nothing. Better chip, slightly better camera, maybe higher storage, and that's it on the hardware front, apparently. World phone capability is hardly anything to get excited about.
I would seriously consider hanging onto my 3GS until next year if I thought it would survive another year, so I wouldn't get locked into a two-year contract on the iPhone 4.5 when the iPhone 2012 will have all the features I've been waiting for.

I'm not so sure about this actually having any chance of happening. But if it did, I would be the first in line for one.

That's my guess.
Purchase apps and have them available for install without synchronization on ipad, ipod, iphone without plugging the device in.
Honestly, I don't think my version of it is correct but MobileMe is as good a guess as any other.

Hi,
I'm thinking of switching from Verizon to AT&T to get the iPhone. However, I'm hearing horror stories of up to 30% dropped calls in the NY area.
For all iPhone/AT&T users in northern NJ and NYC area, can you verify that you experience around 30% of dropped calls?? is this true??
http://gizmodo.com/5370493/apple-genius-bar-iphones-30-call-drop-is-normal-in-new-york
I want the iPhone, but not if it comes with such bad service!!
Thank you,
olimits7
I totally agree.. atleast 1 in four calls is definitely dropped in this area.. i dont blame the iphone though.. its AT&T.. cause i never used to drop calls on my iphone in upstate ny

Ugh that sucks! I worked in a desert so no snowboarding seasons for me either : /
I go to Blue Knob and Seven Springs. Both are in Pennsylvania but I plan on taking a trip out to Winter Park Colorado this winter :D Where do you go?
I go to Camelback in the Poconos. It's the best thing that is closet to me in Jersey.

2+ full size optical drives opppsed to a single slow notebook drive
2+ hard drive bays
Card reader
Easy CPU upgrading
Easy RAM upgrading
Upgradable x16 PCI-Express slot compared to underclocked fixed notebook GPU
3+ PCI/ PCI-E x1 slots for upgrading to new devices
Choice of display
iMac is perfect for most home users.. few "home users"(people who buy a computer and use it, not super up to date about it) upgrade anything..maybe RAM and Harddrive but thats really it

Well Apple is using Intel parts now that explains the lower quality. They're taking their parts from the same bin now; quality suffers...
Their quality was suffering before the move to Intel processors. Ever seen an iBook G3 or iBook G4 in a store for over 2 months? The keycaps are lying all over the place.
Apple have not been interactively checking on the quality and demanding changes quickly enough to suit their problems. Also, the other companies have problems but because they don't have such a presence as a market leader, only Apple's problems reliably make front page news.

I would be really disappointed to see a metal backing like iPod Touch has. My previous iPods from the past are so jacked up on the backside with scratches and dents. I know I'm not alone with this.
I'd prefer if the iPhone retained a glass backing like on the iPhone 4; I think it's just so sexy. But if they were going to move to metal I'd prefer an iPad-style backing.
I really hope they don't adopt the shiny InstaScratch backing, that would suck bad.

Um no, they do not break very easily. Maybe a gorilla might break it easily.
well mine sure did, and my iPad's not responding when I double click for multitasking. I'm no gorilla, it's called "wear and tear", maybe you haven't heard of it?

YES! I would love a iPhone on Sprint's everything plan. I know several people with Sprint smart phones and the service they provide is great for only $70! Choice is a good thing for the customer and if the iPhone 5 does have a global chipset, then wider availability would be the best way to go.
Exactly, I had to give up my iPhone 2G for an EVO because Sprint was so much cheaper and while I love my EVO I would love an iPhone more. I just hope the rumors of possibly a bigger screen come true because going from a 4.3in screen to a 3.5in screen would be kind of hard is the only thing. 3.7-4in would be nice but I digress.

We got them!
Well, we may pass each other back and forth a few times before we can really pull away...
Next target: 2.3 weeks away! Keep Folding!
And a little pat in the back as I just took the #8 spot on the team. Watch out this week #7! After it gets more tricky and WhiteRabbit is coming behind faaaaast...
looks like we're ahead now i think
That dang i7 is going back to normal units until I can figure out why it is so sloooooow... like a tortise...
how slow?
i engaged an octo late last week, will set up another tomorrow. they both run 24/7.
the graphic designers using them rarely require more than 1 core anyway :)
alright! nice! let us know how they are doing, and run the bigadv units if you can

But I stand by Apple for now, that they do have some "bigger" features they just aren't showing us....
What's the next logical step in a computer interface? I used to say "Computer, show me the money" to open Quicken back in pre-OS X days. More of a gimmick than anything else, but imagine if the Finder and maybe even other apps became "speakable."
Me: "Check mail"
Computer: "You have nine new messages. Would you like me to read them?"
Me: "No, thanks."
(clicks on an email, reads message)
Me: "Reply to this message"
Computer: "Type or speak?
Me: "Type"
type-type-type
Me: "Computer, I'd like to add a photo of the kids to this email."
Computer: "iphoto has 6,813 pictures of the kids, which one would you like?"
Me: "One from the birthday party last week."
Computer: (a strip from iphoto appears) "Here are 23 from last week. I've highlighted the one where your wife fixed the red eye. Is that the one you want?"
Me: "Yes, that will be fine."
Computer adds the picture to stationery in the email, other pictures go away.
Me: "Send the email"
Me: "...and order me a pizza."
This kind of thing can't be too far off. A 75 mhz Performa could do it in a rudimentary way. Imagine what a modern Mac may be able to do. "Speakeasy" has a nice ring to it.

what would the ppi be if the screen was made to 3.7 inches? still are sharp as the current display?
Since this rumor suggests it would maintain the current resolution, it would not be as sharp. The difference would likely be unnoticeable, however.

This does not necessarily mean that Apple's iPhone 5 will not have the hybrid chip. It is entirely possible that Apple could be working very close with Qualcomm and they could announce the Iphone 5 in late September just not ship it until November 2011 or even close to the end of the year.

we may be hilarious, but I'd bet alot of money we're going to live alot longer.
