I'm really looking forward to inFamous 2. It's supposed to be released some time next year. The first one was so much fun, so I can imagine what they will do with the second one.

    It is.

The 20" is s bare minimum for photo processing. 23 is better, 30 is ideal.

I would agree if he was a pro, but he's not.

Go for the 2 x 20" ACDs, even by themselves they offer more screen real estate than you're currently used to.

Just my 0.16c worth (using current exchanges rates)

Boxcar was just updated to allow for instant push tweets as well (instead of a 2-min pulling period). I think I'm going to keep using Boxcar because it allows for custom notification sounds when the tweets come in. For example, I like to hear a little "tweet, tweet!" when I get a message vs. the default "tri-tone" sound that the Twitter app offers.

3rd party notification apps will survive because people want features like this.

I just switched from PC to Mac. I received a Base Station Snow Second Hand and the Password is unknown. Is there a way to reset it on the Base Station itself, or is there a way to reconfigure it using my Setup Assistant under Utilities?

    Thanks.

    Nathan

I'll go against the grain and say keep what you have.

You stated you want to cut down on costs, so unless you are a business doing some funky accounting tricks, your equipment is already paid for. And it sounds like since you do Apple dev as a profession, you may kick yourself in the future for having sold the Mac Pro for a ****** Windows box when you pick up another contract.

I also do contract work, and wouldn't dream of selling my personal equipment I use for business unless it was literally a "sell the Mac Pro or lose my apartment" kind of deal.

It's not sell apartment, but I do need the cash. Plus I simply cannot justify a high-end mac pro and a high-end macbook pro. I'll do work on one or the other but not both (impossible to sync 200gb of virtual machines). I kind of temporarily bought both because I couldn't make up my mind, knowing that if I try both eventually I'll sell the one I don't use later on. The problem is, I'll use the macbook pro for a few days hear the fans go on 100% for an hour or want to play a game and copy everything and switch to the mac pro. Then I have to be on-site at a client or just get tired of the home office and copy everything back to laptop and the cycle repeats itself.

But the reason why I keep leaning on macbook pro 15 + gaming rig, is because I like the idea of the primary computer being the portable macbook pro 15. So I have all my work always and it's fast enough for work. And have a gaming pc so I'm not overheating / abusing the laptop for games (unless I'm traveling :)

If it were me and the current Mac was doing all that I needed, I would keep the current model. It would come down to cash flow. Only you know your finances.

I know people have been doing white conversions for months using knock-off parts. Now that the REAL THING exists, are there any places selling the real OEM parts? I held off on doing my conversion because I didn't want knock-off crap. I want to buy the real thing! Help?

I asked iFixIt about when they'd start selling white parts. They said TBD.

You would have gone nuts when Sammy D was posting.

His name even gets bleeped out now. *****, *****, *****. See. ;)

I doubt that.... you just said "Sammy D" in your post, and it wasn't bleeped.

    or is SammyD bleeped?

    or Urdam?

I haven't been around long enough to know who you are talking about, so I have no clue how his/her name was spelled.

Nope, the "Preview Post" button doesn't show any of those as being bleeped. (And yes, the language filter is applied already in the preview pane.)

Another vote for the ATI. I like ATI better and their products are better in my opinion. Now all we need is a PowerMac that can run the ATI AVIVO.

    HAHA! And don't forget Skinnamarink-e-dink-e-dink, Skinnamarink-e-do

OMG ... I seriously think that brain altering soundwaves where used in that song, if you want ot call it that. I remember being 14 and my lil' sister listening to that and I wondered what an EARTH is a Skinnamarink, or what does Skinnamarink-e-dink-e-dink, Skinnamarink-e-do really mean???

Oh yes Tricia Helfer from BSG's Six is Canadian born.
great algriculture, great farmers, the majority of the Great Lakes that provides us fresh water, and beautiful non over-crowded landscape.

    @MacUser2525,

Thank you much for the correction and source. I'm not sure if any of our hereos that survived WWI are left alive. It would be a sad day for this world should any nation's citizens forget to remember the ultimate unselfish sacrifices that where made. I secretly tend to believe that superhereos in comics where invisioned after the hearts of those that paid the ultimate price for freedom.

I like it, Personally I think if you made the bottom (south) facing pointer white *maybe with black binding* and vice versa it would look a bit more "Apple Official"

    Great work none the less!

I was experiencing the same problems as others after installing DP3.

That is, installation seemed ok, UNTIL it got to to "moving items into place" after which it hung.

I forced a restart, and ended up with the grey screen and spinning gear.

    I followed insomniac321123's suggestion:
    - rebooted to Snow Leopard
    - opened the root Library folder
    - opened the Updates folder and located the "lionswupdate.pkg"
Note: it was located in a folder named "041-0870"
    The pathway is (root)/Library/Updates/041-0870/lionswupdate.pkg
    - double-clicked that, re-ran the installer app.
    - this time, when it got to the "moving items into place" segment, the task finished (in relatively short time) and I received "the installation was successful".

After this, I was able to restart and get a "good boot" to 10.7 build 11A444d.

    Other observations:
When I _shut down_ Lion the first time after the update, it seemed to take extra time, with quite a bit of disk activity. I'm going to _guess_ that the problem may be due to files that normally get written at shutdown to be read at the next boot. These would normally be read and pre-loaded before the finder loaded, but could not be, hence the spinning wheel that prevented the finder from loading.

After I finally got a good boot after running the procedure above, and Lion corrected whatever it needed to correct at shutdown, subsequent shutdowns are "normal" again.

This was my experience exactly. I've been out of town, so I haven't been able to post very well.

Thats one of the big perks of having a second, more stable partition. Besides having another OS to fall back on, you still have access to the disk of the problematic OS.

Yeah, I had the hack before I upgraded to Lion, and it kept it through the upgrade. (I had also disabled Dashboard, and it kept that hack as well).
