The only way i'd give up my Treo for an "iPhone" is if it is a true "smart phone". That means PDA functionality. It's got to do everything my Treo does. If it's simply another phone with iTunes on it then it's not worth switching, at least in my opinion.

I am with you on this. I don't see the real compelling reason to have a plain old iPod that makes phone calls and sucks all my battery so I can't play music, or vice versa. It needs to be a compelling smart phone, that will be the inovative part, not the hardware design. We all know it will look like a nano.

Those having glossy screens sure will need an automated screen wiper to go with their new laptops. They've got no touch screens and we take care to not touch them, but eventually the screens get dusted and/or fingerprinted all over.

Look at this iPad. Isn't it disgusting?

    Image (http://www.tema.ru/jjj/apple-2.jpg)

Sure it's not how it looks in ads. It's a real thing in real use.

I also expect a screen wiper in iPad 3, by the way. Screw the liquid metal and gimme the ol' good wiper, please. Or make it matte/Pixel Qi, for heaven's sake.

Meh. Both my MacBook Pro's and Samsung touchscreen cellphone's screens look like that when they're turned off and being viewed in the light from that angle. But you don't notice it when the device is turned on and you are looking directly at it :)

Good to see the Magic Track Pad only option - I Loved my Magic Mouse a lot ... but I love my Magic Track Pad even more, it gives me all the same gestures that I'm used to from the MacBook - I am done with mice and will always go with the TrackPad option. For those that never used one: It does not compare the the good old windows TrackPads, it adds so much more usability since it is a true multitouch device.

Microsoft is still doing very well. They're making the best products they ever have done and as a customer I am very pleased with all of my Microsoft purchases.

    - Zune desktop software
    - Zune hardware and mobile software
    - Windows Phone 7
    - Windows 7
    - Office 2010
    - Office 2011 for Mac
    - Xbox 360
    - Xbox Live

All great products and deserve to be class leaders if they are not already. I can't think of another company (including Apple) that has put out such a fantastic range of very good products.

Really? I mean really? Zune? You forgot to write down Vista too kid. LOL!

Very surprised by many of the responses in support of pulling the apps. I think Apple shouldn't. No I don't support drunk driving, but his borders on ridiculous. There are other apps that supposedly help to circumvent the law... red light camera apps, speed trap apps, police radio scanner apps. So doing one of these things is different? Type in the word "Pot" int he app store and your find apps for cannibus. Isn't that against the law? So now we are going to censor the app store. You open the door for one thing and the government will march right through and pick thing after thing. Bad idea.

I just bought a refurbed Mac mini (HDMI) and was really surprised at how much horsepower that little C2D had to it! It is a GREAT Home Theatre Mac and am totally happy with my purchase! But if they put ThunderBolt in it and an i3 I won't be upset. This chips are getting to the point that they have beaten the software in the core-to-use ratio.

Maybe I'm just getting older and refined in how I design but there are few times that I have to actually WAIT for my Macs to perform a filter or effect that 15 years ago would have caused me to take a coffee break while my old Mac crunched the info. I don't care if I'm using a MacBook or a MacPro... I'll design on any of them and be quite content.

I totally agree. My C2D Macs ( I am a new Mac convert since 2009) are plenty fast for me even though the Apple haters on Mac Rumors are quick to tell me I have old technology with my C2D Macs. My Mini Server is one powerful little machine. I am running 3 virtual machines including a production web server and email server. The Macs "just work!" I can't say the same for my days with Windows.

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.

I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.

You bring a good point... I thought there were thunderbolt drives...

    Yes!

What if at this point Creative can sue Microsoft and others for infringing on "their" patents with the backing of Apple!?
In essence Creative can stay alive selling a few MP3 players, sound cards, and iPod accessories. But they can also sue on demand anybody who tries to use a similar interface (read: everybody). Then Apple jumps in and says: "Hey, we paid. So-and-so should too."
It would also force future and current competitors to try to find another interface, which Apple believes won't work as well.

Apple plays chess very well. This may end up being a very slick move!

Exactly. Apple is playing this to their advantage and not giving others the ability to stick it to them (license with Creative lending weight to Creative's claim) while they fought this thing.

    wow.....$100 million. yikes

Apple has over 9 billion in cash currently... this really is a non-issue in terms of cash outlay.

If you compare it to the risk it removes from a product that makes them billions in a year and the fact it makes it harder for others to duplicate the UI (can use Creative against them) you quickly see it really is a win for Apple.

Hmm... Does this really count as front page news?

Not to say it isn't cool, but we're still talking about an artist rendition based on a reliable source... Not the iPhone "revealed".

    Just my 2 pennies. ;)

So I guess this puts every iPhone VNC client in violation of Apple's terms as it would be displaying Apple copyrighted images...

I'm on RA's side on this one!

You may be right, but we haven't seen the emails or the actual rejected programs.

Furthermore, "The Client Is Always Right", not because they are, but as a matter of principle. The client is in command.

And I insist, Apple's model makes them the client, which I have to admit brings many benefits to the end user and the platform in general -not so many to the suppliers or developers, except maybe for the fact that it makes the end user more confident to part with their money, of which Apple has the numbers to prove.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

Neither will be redesigned next year. Look at the length of time Apple stuck with the previous design. There are still a few years left to this "look."

No offense, but it's rather likely the following revision will launch a refined design. (It's usually done in the fall refresh historically.) This design is rather old and still fashions the old poly carbonite white i-Mac design. Changing the material to unibody aluminum was just a material change that gave it a "newer more modern" look, but it still wasn't a full on redeux. The last major complete redesign was when it went from the iLamp to this form factor.

Though maybe 1 more year.... not quite sure what more than can do with the design except maybe ditch the entire bezzle for 21.5-27" of sexy screen.

Yes, lets just ignore the huge performance, upgradability and price gap in Apples product lineup, shall we. It can be the elephant in the room when we all swoon over our "laptop on a stick" desktop while PC users get to play with the REAL hardware.

Sounds good to me. After all, it's not like Apple wants to actually sell more computers. That's crazy talk!

Does anyone think a slightly bigger version of this would be a fantastic desktop?
Apple doesn't want people spending a few hundred dollars every year on 3rd party computer upgrades. They want you to buy a new computer every 2 years for $1,500. As an Apple shareholder I want you too!

People do not want to hook something that looks like a computer their Home Entertainment Centers. Something streamlined, smaller than a cable box, that looks kind of like a game system, yes.

Like the iPod, Apple will be targeting the consumer market with such a beast. There are other cool media products on the market (TiVo), which are really cool, but just never caught on, because they appear to complicated.

This just threw a spanner into my plans !

I've got a late 2007 non-unibody MBP - the "ultimate" which I've been updating as much as possible (Hybrid SSD 512Gb drive, 4Gb memory, etc etc) - I love my MBP but my applecare warranty just ran out last month. Which, I thought, was plenty timely so I could get the new MBP that just refreshed - quad core, 16Gb RAM seems like a LOT more power !

But, I didn't "jump" immediately - I always wait a couple of months to see what issues develop with the product line (the 17" range seems to have some graphics issues evidently, which seem to be resolved now) - BUT, with this rumor, do I plump down $4k for a maxed-out MBP now or wait until this new case design ?!?!?!

My current MBP is working great. The keyboard has a sticky "D" key, but apart from that, its been the best laptop I've ever owned, and the second longest I've owned before a refresh (the prior record holder was a Sony Vaio PCG-V505BX which I used/upgraded/refreshed a full 5 years before needing to upgrade !)

So what do I do ? I wasn't planning on buying the MBP until next month, after I got back from vacation...

If your current MacBook is still doing everything you want it to do, I wouldn't upgrade and wait (maybe 2-3 month after the new one is out) .... Of course the current one will also probably do more than you need, but if you can wait, it's always nice to have the latest design.

...But giving out flyers to people away from their stall is NOT a good enough reason!!

Unfortunately for Greenpace, it's a private event. Fair or not, if the organizers of said event feel like it's enough to throw them out, then it is!

Also, let's give credit where credit is due. Apple even allowing Greenpeace to have a booth there in the fist place is akin to the Republicans allowing the Democrats to deliver a speech during the Republican Nat'l Convention, or vice versa. That's a pretty gracious move on Apple's part. They had nothing to gain by Greenpeace being there, and a lot to lose. I'm sure Apple's tolerance levels for them was extremely low coming in, and rightfully so.

Unless you have very fast connection and a nice big fat download limit movies from the iTunes store will be a little pointless. I'm not saying being able to download a feature length movie wouldn't good but until the net goes faster and download limits increase I can't really see too many people downloading.

If the price of the download is similar to the DVD I'll be buying the DVD, I still like having a tangible product.

What many people fail to realize it Creative had some accessories that have adapters that work with the Shuffle and the ipod however this alows them to actually put the "made for ipod" tag on it.

    What?:)
