The bottom line is that this is just one more EULA violation that people will ignore on a daily basis, unless MS implements some way of enforcing it.

I think there is a hole in this argument/dream. Apple has spent considerable time and marketing money in the Made for iPod campaign that centers arounds the dock connector. They have created the Universal dock and inserts for all recent iPods, promising to keep these updated with all new iPods in the foreseeable future. Therefore, I seriously doubt these new no touch iPods wouldn't have at least a dock connector. .
The new Nike-Apple collaboration shows how Apple could get around this - simply a female dock receptacle, bluetooth (or whatever) configured to replace the physical dock connection. It would work for automobile interfaces, the iPhoto connection etc.

Not exactly. This is a correct report that Microsoft has tried to cloud and cover up. Essentially, Vista will be licensed on a two-machine basis, with some basic restrictions (like all software has). Nothing new there.
What's new, and what is actually a correct report, is that MS has addressed the use of their OS in a virtual environment which was never completely addressed before in their EULA and terms of use. Because virtual environments are technically different than system installs, it was a grey area. Now they are explicitly banning such use for users of any version other than the premium level. Whether or not it will be "technically" illegal, but still possible, or if it will be impossible without piracy, remains to be seen.
It's not particularly earth shattering or shocking one way or the other. All companies have their dirty little ways to make an extra buck or keep you paying them long after you should. Apple does it too.
From a business perspective, it's really not a terrible strategy by MS if they want to keep customers. The Intel Mac switch has opened the door for PC diehards to take the plunge to a Mac without the risk of being away from their cherished Windows environment. Making Vista difficult, or at least expensive, to install on these new Macs is actually not a bad strategy for MS to keep some customers iffy about making the switch. Apple doesn't currently produce their own displays now why would they wade into the low-margin muck that is the display market?

Any professional copy shop should be able to take your sequential, 5.5" x 8.5" size pages and turn it into a booklet with binding in the middle. My understanding is that they have super-expensive machines that can do that without much effort.
I don't think you need to futz around with a non-sequential layout unless you plan to print this out yourself without the use of fancy $40,000+ copiers.

If you look really closely, you can see there is no difference. White stands out more than black, so really what you're seeing is the front face of the phone adding to the width because of this two dimensional perspective. The front face of black iPhone is visible too, it just isn't noticeable in front of that background. Look closely.

It's not worth getting into. Not everyone has the issues with their phones. I reboot mine almost everyday and with this update I notice a speed difference. I don't have an issue with opening youtube vids in safari and I have no lag time with opening 3rd party apps. Get over it.

This is all very interesting and I can discern the excitement amongst you that have an immediate use for this technology. For me, I am looking forward to a full implementation of Wine, or similar product, which will eliminate the need to load the Windows OS before running Windows programs. I do believe this will truly set OSX free.
Does anyone know if any of the emulators will allow MS Sql Server to run on an Xserve platform? What about Exchange or other backoffice applications?

I hadn't even NOTICED this until now, and now that I have, I'm not really sure why I'm supposed to care. Honestly, if it's a choice between fixing this and putting more development resources into iOS 5, I much prefer the latter.

EDIT: I wanted to add that I'd rather my app launch faster than for time to be wasted playing a silly animation. Based on how fast the app comes up, that may be what's going on here.
Open a stock app, like Messages or Photos.
Watch the animation, look at how the icons fly off to the edges of the screen and the app you pressed zooms forward from the centre of the screen and into full screen view. That, is the animation for launching an app.
Now try it on, for example, Infinity Blade, Engadget, TUAW, Dead Space, Final Fantasy 3 (basically 99.9% of third party apps). Notice that when you press the app icon, it dulls as normal, but then the app immediately appears on screen. No home screen icons zooming off to the edges of the screen, no app you are loading zooming forward from the centre of the screen to fill the entire viewable area.
Only once the app has been loaded, and is in the memory, can you open/close the app and get the animation as normal.
No doubt you'll say you don't have that on your phone, but there you go.

I find it funny that if this was a physical calendar on my desk, those "remnants of torn-off pages" added for additional realism would irritate me and I would pick them off to have a nice clean surface. However, as a digital representation, I like it better because they're there.

4.3.2 for ATT/Europe iPhone, 4.2.7 for Verizon iPhone...........funny how Apple says Android is fragmented, but has slight fragmentation themselves. I know its an old argument, but its true. Apple need to bring all updates to the same version number with the same feature set. I mean, when the heck is the Verizon iPhone going to get 4.3 already? Also, 2.3.3 Gingerbread for Android is about 80mb ;) .

Sounds like glossy is BTO to me.

The current 3GS with the cheapest plan you can get from AT&T would cost you 90% of what the same plan and a 4 would cost you.
Not sure what's amazing about that, and I'm pretty sure that when the 5 is out, the 4 will end up costing roughly the same.

What about someone with multiple accounts? The additional line is $10 a month. You failed to consider all the factors in your math.
For people buying an expensive smartphone getting the 3GS is a good deal. Notice how they sell more of them then any other smartphone besides the iPhone 4, even when Android handset makers give away their product.
